2015-05-01_04-42-16-PM37763scr_767b6e497919ed4The University of Arkansas, College of Engineering honored 17 graduates with College of Engineering Alumni Awards at its annual banquet on Saturday, April 25, at the Embassy Suites in Rogers. The awards recognize alumni of the college who have demonstrated exceptional professional and personal accomplishments and made important contributions to their professions and communities.

“Our alumni are among our college’s biggest strengths and their accomplishments speak directly to the quality of our academic program,” said John English, dean of the college. “We are proud of all our alumni, but this group is a sample of our very best.”

Melinda Faubel

At the banquet, Melinda Faubel was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award given in recognition of outstanding leadership and professional distinction. Melinda is the director of external affairs with AT&T Arkansas. She is responsible for the contributions budget, sponsorships, and local advertising for AT&T in Arkansas. Melinda is also the AT&T Foundation liaison for Arkansas and works on education and economic development projects for AT&T in Arkansas. Melinda represents AT&T in the community on initiatives such as the Arkansas Coalition Against Texting While Driving.

A member of numerous boards in the central Arkansas area, Melinda was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineering in April 2004. She has served on their board of directors for many years including in the position of President, and has recently joined the board again. Melinda received her BSIE in 1980.

Also acknowledged at the banquet was Ami Spivey, Sr. Vice President of Walmart International Business Processes. Ms. Spivey received the Early Career Award, which recognizes exceptional professional and personal achievements of more recent College of Engineering graduates.

Ms. Spivey leads a team that facilitates process and systems improvements for Walmart International. Additionally, she is a part of Walmart Global Business Processes Team, which integrates Innovation and Engineering across the organization.

In her 19 years with the company Ms. Spivey has held many roles leading Sam’s Club, Distribution Center and Transportation Operations, in addition to Engineering. She also has had the opportunity to play a part in Walmart’s emergency response and assistance efforts. Ms. Spivey has received numerous awards for performance in her field. Most notably, her Brooksville, Florida team received the Helen Robson Walton Community Involvement Award, one of Walmart’s highest honors.

Ms. Spivey actively supports many of the University of Arkansas undergraduate programs including senior design sponsorships and is a corporate mentor for their Women in Logistics Program. In April 2011 she was inducted into the Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineers. In addition, Ms. Spivey is currently serving on the Board of Directors as the Chair of the Global Studies Committee and she received her BSIE in 1995.
